art therapy - what to expect.png

It’s normal to feel like talking about how you feel can only get you so far. Engaging in creativity via art therapy can aid recovery. It helps you to express yourself, focus, relax, connect with other people and at times share your story.

Art Therapy has the potential to help with:

  • Self esteem: Art therapy can give you a feeling of self-satisfaction, improving your confidence at the same time.

  • Self discovery: The creative process can help us to recognise feelings that have been hiding in our subconscious.

  • Anger management: Through art, we’re able to channel emotions. Helping us to express anger in a way that is healing rather than damaging.

  • Stress: Creating art can help you to stop thinking about whatever it is that is worrying you and be present in the moment.

  • Depression: Art therapy provides a healthy channel to let go of emotions that cannot be expressed with words.

  • Anxiety: Fighting anxiety can be exhausting both mentally and physically. Art therapy can be used to relax your mind and body.

There’s no need to have prior experience with art to benefit from art therapy. Our focus is on your process and what emerges for you as you engage with your art. I am not here to judge, analyse or interpret your art, rather together we reflect and process the image or artwork created, and discover the insights and meaning there for you.
